Adventure guide Job DescriPTIOn

Visualize yourself on a team of high-energy, upbeat, fun-loving people who love the outdoors and our picturesque nature in Upper Michigan. You would live at no charge at our private guide campground close to the Outpost.  Each day, we work hard to provide our guests with unforgettable, high-end, personalized experiences.

You will be working with other guides to help facilitate our guests in their outdoor adventure.  Safety is our first priority and we will train you to make sure you are comfortable on each trip. Our guests come to us because we are a cut above the rest in providing a high-quality trip that exceeds their expectations.

Responsibilities

We are looking for guides to lead our customers on all trips we offer. From whitewater rafting to duckie, to overnight trips, guides are responsible for set up, facilitation, and clean up for all trips. The more you can do, the more work we will have for you.

Qualifications

Specific Skills: Exceptional personal communication skills. First aid and CPR training is required (we will train you if needed). Experience in outdoor adventure activities and First responder/EMT certifications are a plus.

No experience is necessary. On-the-job training (related to each activity) is available for all of the outdoor adventures we offer. For each adventure you wish to train in on you would need to attend the mandatory 2-day training for each adventure.

After you “check out” with a senior staff member you will start guiding trips as an official TNO Adventure Guide. All training is free and provided by True North Outpost. We train more than any other company on the river because we hold ourselves to the highest standards of safety and quality. Some heavy lifting is required. This job is highly physical.

  • If under 18 employees must have signed permission from parents for employment.

  • No one under 18 is permitted to guide private whitewater trips.

The Personality That Fits:  A hard-working person who is passionate about outdoor adventure and can verbally express that passion to our guests is what we look for. Someone who is upbeat, personable, and gets along well with customers, and co-workers; someone who is comfortable talking to a stranger, helping others, or setting someone straight in a firm, yet professional way.  A flexible person who adapts well to an ever-changing environment. Has the willingness to learn and naturally greets customers in a warm, welcoming, and pleasant fashion. Strive to provide our guests with information that can enhance their visit. The ability to entertain in his/her way, and to adjust your style appropriately for the group. Someone who is self-motivating and can work independently. Someone who can take on a project and "get it done." Someone who appreciates beauty, a simple lifestyle. Someone who wants to work as a team and set their team up for success.
